LEADERSHIP & GOVERNANCE
Executive Chairman, Board and management
The Service is governed by the State Board of Internal Revenue and run day to day by the Executive Chairman and six directors. Their names, offices and responsibilities are published here because a taxpayer is entitled to know who is accountable for the demand in their hand.
The Executive Chairman
Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim Danbatta, FCA, FCTI, was appointed Executive Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service in January 2023 for a four-year term, and is also Chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenue. A chartered accountant with twenty-six years in public finance, he served previously as Director of Assessment at the Service, as Accountant-General of the State, and as a member of the Joint Tax Board technical committee on the harmonisation of state revenue codes.
His mandate on appointment was specific: consolidate every State collection into one account, eliminate cash handling at the point of collection, widen the taxpayer register through systematic enumeration rather than roadblocks, and publish what is collected. Under that programme, internally generated revenue has risen from ₦34.2 billion in 2022 to ₦58.4 billion in 2025, the registered taxpayer base has grown by 61 per cent, and the share of collections received through electronic channels has moved from 43 per cent to 96 per cent.
